
David Behm

David Behm is a professor and researcher at the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His work focuses on exercise physiology, neuromuscular responses, and training adaptations. With over 550 publications in scientific and professional journals, he is recognized as a leading expert in his field.
Professional Career
David holds bachelor’s degrees in Physical Education and Education from the University of Ottawa. Before pursuing academia, he was drafted into the Canadian Football League by the Ottawa RoughRiders and served as a hockey and football coach at Bishop's University. He also managed a fitness club in Dartmouth, NS. He earned his master’s degree at McMaster University under Dr. Digby Sale and completed a PhD in Rehabilitation Science at McGill University with Dr. Diane St-Pierre while teaching physical education at Dawson College.
David joined Memorial University in 1995, becoming a full professor in 2004 and earning the title of University Research Professor in 2015. He has presented his research across North America, South America, Europe, and Australia. His work has significantly influenced international training techniques for athletes and has been featured in media outlets like Discovery Channel and Quirks and Quarks.
