Sports Med Open. 2022 Jun 3;8(1):72. doi: 10.1186/s40798-022-00466-3.
This meta-analysis of 26 studies on female soccer players after an official soccer match found that performance parameters showed some immediate post-match reduction with reduced CMJ performance at 12 h and sprint at 48 h post-match. Inflammatory and immunological parameters increased acutely immediately post-match. Creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase alterations persisted at 72 h post-match. Small-to-moderate increments of cortisol and reductions of testosterone/cortisol ratio were found immediately post-match. Large increments in fatigue, reduced vigor, and soreness were found immediately post and at 24 h post-match. Importantly, physical performance was recovered at 72 h post-match, whereas muscle damage markers were still increased at this time point.
Do healthy athletes exhibit at-risk biomechanics for anterior cruciate ligament injury during pivoting movements?

Sports Biomech. 2022 Jun 2:1-14. doi: 10.1080/14763141.2022.2080105.
In this study, 34 athletes performed a frontal deceleration and a change of direction at 90° while full-body kinematics was collected through 15 wearable inertial sensors (Awinda, Xsens), an 9 ACL risk factors were defined based on four categories: limited lower limb flexion, valgus collapse, foot rotation and trunk rotation. An injury profile (considered as the presence of at least 5 simultaneous risk factors) was identified at least in one trial in 24 athletes (71%) and three trials in 5 athletes (15%). Significant associations were found for higher approaching speed and female sex. A large occurrence of the typical ACL injury biomechanical profile was noticed. Large screenings are advisable to identify at-risk athletes and promote preventative strategies.
