Wayne Diesel

South African Physiotherapist, who qualified in 1986, completed a BSc (Med)(Hons) Sports Science in 1988 and was awarded a PhD in Exercise Physiology in 1994. In 1997 opened the Private Physiotherapy Practice at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. Has worked extensively in elite sport over the past 30 years including several South African National Teams namely Women’s Gymnastics, Men’s Field Hockey, Soccer and Rugby as well Head Physiotherapist at All African, Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
Relocated to the UK in 2002 to work for Gloucester Rugby Football Club. Subsequently worked in the EPL for 12 seasons by joining Charlton Athletic Football Club in 2003 for 4 seasons until June 2007 and then spent 8 seasons at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club as Head of Medical Services. Academic involvement in the UK included co-supervising PhD research and lecturing MSc students on Groin and Hamstring injuries. Wayne moved to the US in Feb 2015 as Sports Performance Director of the NFL Miami Dolphins. In 2018 he accepted the Role as Director of Player Care with San Antonio Spurs (NBA). Wayne retired in June 2021 and has moved back to the UK to spend time with his family.
