Shona Halson is part of the FSI Training faculty, contributing world-leading expertise in sleep, recovery, and fatigue management, translating cutting-edge research into practical strategies for football performance.

Currently

She is a Professor and Deputy Director of the SPRINT Research Centre at Australian Catholic University’s School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, where she leads research focused on optimizing recovery and performance in elite sport.

Professional background

Professor Halson previously served as Head Recovery Physiologist at the Australian Institute of Sport for over 15 years, leading recovery strategies across multiple high-performance programs. She was also part of the recovery team during three Olympic campaigns with the Australian Olympic Committee.

Her research centers on sleep science, athlete recovery, and fatigue monitoring, with more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters. She has provided advisory services to major organizations including the Australian Open, FIFA, Nike, and several national and international professional sports teams.

At FSI Training, she delivers sessions within the Football Nutrition Master on Nutrition and sleep, offering evidence-based approaches to enhance recovery, cognitive function, and overall performance through optimized sleep strategies in elite football.
