Content of the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Master’s Program

A complete training program with more than 90 hours of video content that will turn you into a specialist in strength and conditioning for professional football, equipped with the skills and knowledge demanded today by top elite clubs.

Module 1: Physiological and performance demands in a football match

This module focuses on analysing a crucial aspect of training process design: the analysis of the event for which the training is intended. In this block, we examine the physiological and external demands of a football match.

The focus is on what happens when a person plays football. This module provides an accurate understanding that will later be used to design effective training methods. It also offers deep insights into contextual analysis for planning training strategies.

Module 2: Physiological evaluation of football players

This module focuses on improving performance and managing fatigue in football. It covers aspects such as evaluating different factors to classify and monitor player performance, identifying fatigue-related indicators to prevent overtraining and injury risk, and understanding the importance of mental and cognitive assessments.

The module includes classes on biomarker monitoring, physiological evaluation through heart rate monitoring, body composition assessment, creation of databases for medical and performance data management and tracking in football teams.

Module 3: Assessment of physical performance and injury prevention in footballers

This module focuses on the importance of measuring physical values to improve football performance. The emphasis is that measurement is the foundation of improvement and must be conducted without being intrusive for players.

The module covers topics such as the different physical values that need to be measured, how to measure them accurately, and how to assess the results to optimise performance.

Module 4: Physical load monitoring in football

This module addresses physical load monitoring for training. It explores various technical tools for tracking player load, with field specialists sharing their expertise.

The objective is to simplify and make load monitoring effective, starting with basic athlete questionnaires and progressing towards more complex methods.

Module 5: Training to improve fatigue resistance in football I

This module covers the first part of a key topic in the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Master’s Program: training to improve fatigue resistance in footballers.

Since football matches last 90 minutes or more, fatigue resistance is essential for every team member. The module is divided into two parts due to its depth and focuses on the daily training process.

Module 6: Training to improve fatigue resistance in football II

This module covers the tools, methods and interventions required to improve fatigue resistance in male and female players on the pitch. The second part of the content focuses more on the practical aspects of the training process, including match analysis, task design and supporting classes indirectly related to fatigue resistance.

Module 7: Training for high-intensity actions in football I

This module focuses on training methods aimed at increasing players’ ability to perform high-intensity actions effectively. Unlike traditional strength training, this module is not focused on injury prevention but on direct performance improvement through mechanically similar exercises with some type of overload.

Module 8: Strength and conditioning for injury prevention in football I

This module covers physical preparation for injury prevention in football. Its goal is to help strength and conditioning professionals understand how to prevent the most common injuries in football and how to manage chronic injuries that may affect the performance of players of both sexes.

Module 9: Strength and conditioning for injury prevention in football II

This module expands on injury prevention from a strength and conditioning perspective, with special emphasis on specific injuries such as hamstring injuries and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. It also examines the best protocols to prevent these injuries and how to manage chronically injured players.

Module 10: Training for high-intensity actions in football II

This module delves into training methods to increase players’ propulsion capacity and high-intensity performance. The main goal is to improve performance through overload exercises and drills that are similar to high-intensity movements in football.

Module 11: Strength and conditioning periodisation in football

This module covers the differences between concurrent and individualised training in football and their respective benefits. It explores strategies to avoid detraining during the off-season and optimise pre-season preparation.

Module 12: Strength and conditioning periodisation in football II

This module provides practical examples of periodisation during pre-season and throughout the competitive season for footballers. This block highlights the importance of designing effective training plans to improve physical performance and prevent injuries.

Module 13: Warm-up and pre-training practice in football

This module focuses on the importance of warm-ups in training. From a theoretical-practical perspective, it covers the elements that influence player performance.

Module 14: Recovery in football

This module addresses key aspects of recovery in football, such as managing recovery between matches, sleep strategies, preparation for international tournaments and practical recovery methods.

Module 15: Nutrition for football

This module covers the essential aspects of nutrition in football, emphasising the importance of strength and conditioning professionals understanding nutrition as part of their daily work, especially for recovery and high-intensity training.

Module 16: Strength and conditioning for youth footballers

This module covers key aspects of youth player development, focusing on neuromuscular performance, individualised training and talent development, with particular emphasis on minimising injury risk.
