Matt Taberner is the Head of Physical Performance at the Manchester City Academy since November 2022, where he leads the physical performance programs for young players. He is also a Visiting Research Fellow at Liverpool John Moores University since July 2024, conducting research in the area of sports performance.

Professional Career

Before his position at Manchester City, Matt served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the NBA team Orlando Magic (2021-2022). During six years at Everton FC, he worked as Head of Rehabilitation (2017-2019) and Head of Sports Science (2014-2017), managing players' rehabilitation and physical performance. Additionally, he worked as Lead Academy Sports Scientist at Aston Villa FC (2009-2013), developing training programs for youth players.

Skills and Expertise

Matt holds a Professional Doctorate in Applied Sports Science from Liverpool John Moores University (2018-2020), where he developed a framework for return-to-sport in elite football. He also has an MSc in Sports Nutrition from Loughborough University and a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northampton.
