Dr. Pieter d’Hooghe is part of the FSI Training faculty, contributing a clinical and applied perspective on lower limb injuries and orthopaedic surgery in football, integrating medical decision-making with the real demands of high-performance sport.

Currently

He works as a sports orthopaedic surgeon at Aspetar Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, one of the world’s leading centres for sports medicine, where he specialises in knee, ankle, and foot pathology in elite athletes.

Professional background

He has extensive experience in professional football, having served for more than a decade as Head of Medical Services at FC Club Brugge, directly overseeing injury management, surgical decision-making, and return-to-play processes.

His academic profile includes a PhD in Medical Sciences, advanced training in sports medicine and management, and a strong research and editorial background, with authorship and editorship of multiple books and peer-reviewed scientific publications focused on football injuries.

In addition, he is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell University and a member of the executive committee of ISAKOS, contributing to the development of international standards in sports surgery, research, and medical education applied to elite sport.
