His role at FSI Training
Lasse Lempainen is part of the FSI Training faculty, providing an international reference in sports orthopaedic surgery and the management of musculotendinous injuries, with a particular focus on football and high-demand sports.
Currently
He works as an orthopaedic surgeon at Pihlajalinna Hospital and as an Associate Professor of Sports Orthopaedics at the University of Turku, combining clinical practice, university teaching, and applied research in sports medicine.
Professional background
Trained at the University of Turku, he completed his surgical and orthopaedic residency in leading university hospitals, including a period of research and clinical training at the Clinic of Traumatology and Sports Medicine at the Technical University of Munich.
He is internationally recognised as an expert in hamstring injuries, an area in which he completed his doctoral thesis and has led key advances in surgical treatment and clinical decision-making for elite athletes.
His experience includes ongoing collaboration with elite clubs such as FC Barcelona, alongside an active research career focused on Achilles tendon and posterior thigh injuries, integrating science, surgery, and rehabilitation to optimise return to performance.
