Nicola Maffulli is part of the FSI Training faculty, providing an authoritative clinical and academic perspective in sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery, with a strong focus on injury management and performance-related pathology.
Currently
He is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and Honorary Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University of London, where he combines clinical practice with research and postgraduate education.
Professional background
Internationally recognised in sports medicine, he has organised and supervised medical services at major sporting events such as the London 2012 Olympic Games and has described more than fifty novel surgical techniques in knee, foot, ankle, and sports-related surgery.
He completed his medical training in Italy before specialising in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology in London, later becoming the first full-time professor of Sports Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health.
With more than 1,500 peer-reviewed publications and over 87,000 citations, his work spans clinical and basic sciences, including biomechanics, tissue repair, and the genetics of athletic performance, and he has trained numerous surgeons and sports medicine specialists now working in elite sport and academia.
