Shawn M. Arent
FSI Faculty
His role at FSI Training
Shawn M. Arent is part of the FSI Training faculty, contributing extensive expertise in exercise endocrinology, stress physiology, and performance nutrition, bridging high-level research with applied practice in football.
Currently
He is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina and Director of the USC Sport Science Lab, where he leads research and academic programs focused on performance, recovery, and human adaptation to stress.
Professional background
Dr. Arent’s research centers on the relationship between physical activity and stress, with particular emphasis on endocrine mechanisms, biomarkers of the HPA axis, and inflammation. His work examines how acute and chronic resistance training and targeted nutritional interventions influence performance, recovery, mental health, and systemic stress responses in athletes and special populations.
He has previously served as Professor at Rutgers University, Director of the Center for Health & Human Performance, and consultant for elite sport environments, including US Soccer Federation and professional teams. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and has been recognized as the William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist of the Year by the NSCA.
At FSI Training, he delivers advanced sessions within the Football Nutrition Master, including Nutrition timing – beyond protein, Amino acids and leucine supplementation in football, and Nutrition and cognitive function, providing a rigorous, physiology-based perspective on optimizing performance and recovery in elite football.
