His role at FSI Training
Luc J.C. van Loon is part of the FSI Training faculty, contributing a globally recognised scientific perspective in exercise physiology and sports nutrition, with a strong focus on skeletal muscle adaptation.
Currently
He is Professor of Physiology of Exercise and Nutrition at Maastricht University and Head of the M3 Research Group, where he leads research on muscle metabolism and the interaction between exercise and nutrition in health and disease.
Professional background
With more than two decades of academic experience, he has built an international research profile in skeletal muscle metabolism, publishing hundreds of peer-reviewed studies that have shaped current understanding of muscle adaptation to exercise.
His laboratory investigates how physical activity, nutritional strategies, and targeted interventions influence muscle protein synthesis, metabolic health, and adaptation across the lifespan.
In parallel, he serves as scientific coordinator of the Stable Isotope Research Centre at Maastricht University Medical Centre, bridging advanced research methods with applied insights relevant to performance, recovery, and long-term health.
